Full-time mom by day and freelancer by night, Heléne’s duvet quickly became her nighttime office. Sitting with her Macbook on her lap one night (and a creak in her neck) she thought: “this could be easier!”
Off she went to her garage to bang together a make-shift laptop desk. Although a wonderfully crude construction, this simple little desk made her after-hours screen time so much better!
BUT… her daughters Ruby-Rose, Scarlett & Sienna had their own plans for this little desk and Heléne watched as her creation soon became their partner in freedom and independence.
With an extra 20cms boosting them to reach the unreachable and the ability for their little hands to carry the lightweight desk with them everywhere they went, their imaginations took over and Heléne began to see all the “I can!” moments unfolding before her very eyes.
Some days it was a plain old table, where they could eat at, do artwork on, or play games with their friends. Other times it was a step, giving them that extra height to help themselves from the fridge, wash their hands, or brush their teeth. And then 5 minutes later, it was a bridge, with an imaginary river of hot lava running under it – the possibilities were endless in the minds of her girls.
With only one small desk and three daughters, Heléne had to make more little enablers, except something extra was about to happen. This marvel got even cooler when a cheerful little character showed up on the sides, who now needed a name… and his name would be, “Dinky!”.
